Khushbu meets Sonia, wait for prez continues

CHENNAI: A day after holding discussions with Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, party’s national spokesperson Khushbu on Tuesday called on AICC president Sonia Gandhi in the national capital. The meeting assumes significance as the list of contenders for the post of TNCC president is burgeoning with every passing day.

Answering queries of mediapersons, Khushbu said she had briefed the party leadership about the growth of Congress in Tamil Nadu ‘during the past two years’. Though EVKS Elangovan was the TNCC president for the past two years, Khushbu said she did not insist that he should be allowed to lead the party in Tamil Nadu. Asked whether she had urged on the continuance of EVKS as the TNCC chief, Khushbu said, “I am not promoting anyone and I am not the personal assistant of Elangovan. I am functioning as the spokesperson of the party. I am working for the Congress party and for AICC president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi.”

Responding to another query, Khushbu said at a time when people of the country were facing many a problem, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was been touring foreign countries. According to her, the BJP-led NDA government had been implementing many a welfare schemes of the previous UPA regime in different names.

A senior functionary said the work had come to a standstill for over three weeks because of the high command’s delay in the appointment of a new president. With just two days more for the celebration of the 114th anniversary, cadre are eagerly awaiting the announcement of a new president.
