'Even heaven can't match namma ooru'

CHENNAI: Edison Prithiviraj, more popular as just Eddie in the music circuit, is the founder of Exodus, a music and event management firm.  He is a well-known musician and a lead vocalist for his bands Army and Blood Convent. Besides that, he is the proprietor of Unwind Centre which hosts live musical shows and concerts.

So, what’s your Chennai connect?

I was born and raised here.

If you have to describe Chennai in one word what would that be?

Astonishing!

Four stereotypes about the city that make you roll your eyeballs?

1) That all South Indians must be vegetarians. Hello? There’s Chettinad that gave birth to Chicken 65!

2) Most of us don’t speak English like ‘Quick gun’ Murugan and Tamil as in Chennai Express movie.

3) The most ridiculous stereotype is “all south Indians are ‘madraasi’ and they are mostly dark. Huh! Hema Malini from Mars?

4) “Can you climb a coconut tree?”

Where would you take a person who is new to the city? Why?

I would take them to the beach, because of the sundal, manga or simply because it’s the second longest beach in the world.

Why do you think namma ooru is special to you?

It gives me life and hope.

Your favourite hangout spot in the city?

I love to hang out at the Unwind Centre. Every Saturday, I make it a point to be there to experience the best live music in Chennai.

What is the craziest thing you have done  so far in Chennai? If yes where?

I hold the longest record of standing every evening at the Doveton School bus stop for 13 years (even on holidays). You must be thinking why 13 years? I flunked in Class 12 exam.

If you have to make a jingle on Chennai what would that be?

Sorgamae endralum athu nam ooru pola varuma; Athu ennaadu endraalum athu nam naatukkeedaaguma

One part of the city that you want to explore?

I’d like to explore the hidden spots along East Coast Road.

What’s unique about Chennai that you don’t get to see in other cities?

The ready smile on people’s face at many places.

Describe the city in your own style?

It’s the city of peace and love.

If you have to install another statue on Marina beach, who would you select?

I would install the statue of Dr Srinivasan who is the power star of Chennai.

What would you do to prove that you are a true Chennai vaasi?

Unnoda bada bejara pochu pa.. Oh that’s the Chennai Otteri slang.
