CHENNAI: In yet another incident of robbery, a five member gang  attacked a pawn broker at knife point at his shop situated at Uthandi on East Cost Road on Saturday afternoon. However, no valuables were stolen, police confirmed.

A Suresh (25), a resident of the same area runs a pawn broker shop ‘Manoj pawn brokers’ at Uthandi. On Saturday, at around 12.05 pm, a five member gang came on two bikes to the shop.

“Two men approached Suresh posing as customers, while three others waited outside the shop. Learning that he was alone at shop, the duo threatened him at knife point. When he tried to resist the three others who were waiting near the bike also entered the shop and tried to attack him with sickles. Suresh immediately raised an alarm.

"Neighbours rushed to his rescue, while the gang managed to escape from the scene,” said a senior police officer.

However, the incident was recorded in the CCTV cameras installed in the shop and the footage was handed over to the police to trace the culprits. The police said the bike that were used barred fake registration numbers.

“The shop is situated in a less crowded area which is an advantage for miscreants to attack shop keepers. However, the patrol vehicle is on the move always to keep a watch on such areas,” the officer added.

A case has been registered at the Kanathur police station and investigations are on.
