34-year-old Man Held for Killing 2 in 15-days Span

CHENNAI: A 34-year-old man was arrested by the Tiruvallur police in connection with two murders that were reported in a span of 15 days in Tirumazhisai.

The arrested was identified as Anandan, a resident of Udayar Koil Street in Tirumazhisai. On Monday. he confessed to the police of having killed two persons by smashing their faces with a stone after a verbal duel.

Police said, the arrested had a quarrel with one Karuppan (45), when he went to sleep near Othandeshwaran Temple in Tirumazhisai.

“When there was a verbal fallout, Anandan bludgeoned Karuppan’s head with a stone, when he was in deep asleep, killing him on the spot. After which he fled the scene. A few days later,  Anandan had a misunderstanding that led to a quarrel with another coolie Anand (39), following which the latter was also murdered the same way. The body was recovered from the temple pond near Jagannatha Perumal Temple in Tirumazhisai,” police said.

Finding both bodies bearing similar injuries, police suspected the hand of a single man or group to be behind the incident. Through further probing, the police with the aid of CCTV footage recorded at a Kalyana Mantapam, revealed the identity of the murderer.

Anandan, after being arrested told the police that he was separated from his wife.
