CHENNAI: It was that day of the year when all the mommies in the city decided to put down their cape to have some fun. It was an evening of fun and frolic at the Chennai Super Mom 2016 event at the Grand Mall, Velachery. Presented by LIC Housing Finance, the event saw the participation of over 40 mothers from different parts of the city.

Talking to CE on the occasion of becoming the first runner up, Bhuvaneswari said, “This event is so much fun. Some of us performed on stage when we were in school and college and reliving those moments again was a gift.” Providing a perfect stage for mothers, competitions such as Mom & Me (mother and child event), Graceful Mom (Ramp show), Culinary Mom (cookery), sirippu pattimanram (talk show) and Adventurous Mom (on the spot challenges) were highlights of the event.

Thara, who was crowned with the title of Chennai Super Mom 2016 shared, “I performed on stage 10 years ago in college and today was my fifth year as a mother. Seeing my son being proud of me is a feeling that can’t be explained. During the balloon blowing event, he came up to me and encouraged me to do it. I can’t believe he’s just five years old. I was touched.”

What was unique about the event was the participation of three generations. Menaka, a 65-year-old said, “I am participating as a mother and a grandmother. My daughter won the cookery event and am proud of her…so is her son!” she quips. To add to the excitement, on-the-spot cooking sessions were held for the audience as well. Preparing main course delicacies, desserts and salads without fire, the participants were seen enjoying the event! “I never knew cooking would be this fun! I made a chocolate-based dessert. My son loves it,” shared Lakshmi.

The judge of the event and cookery expert Menu Rani Chellam said, “It is wonderful to see all these young mothers cooking their heart out. What’s more beautiful is the support of their kids and elderly parents.” Nila Rajeevan, winner of Super Mom 2010, was the judge, and the host for the evening was actor Arvind.
