Cultural club to function subject to 10 conditions

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court passed an order allowing the Mahalakshmi Cultural Association in North Boag Road in T Nagar to carry on with its activities subject to a set of 10 conditions including not to indulge in any illegal activity other than playing rummy with stakes.

The High Court barred the police from unduly interfering in the functioning of the association unless there is evidence of gambling or some other illegal activity.

These conditions were stipulated earlier by a single judge while passing orders on a writ petition on March 5, 2012.

Here is what the petitioner sought

The petitioner had sought to restrain the police, including the City Police Commissioner, Joint Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Police from preventing members of the club from playing indoor games
