South Chennai MDMK functionary quits party

In a setback to the MDMK, its south Chennai district secretary B Manimaran has quit the party and is likely to join the DMK. This comes a day ahead of the results of the May 16 Assembly elections are to be declared. The past couple  of months witnessed an exodus of many lower-rung functionaries of MDMK to the DMK.
Speaking to Express, Manimaran said Vaiko, a veteran politician who had worked under DMK president M Karunanidhi and had met more than nine Prime Ministers of the country, declared someone else as his leader 10 days ago. “Vaiko’s statement was shocking. He has been leading the party for the past 23 years and all of a sudden, where is the need for declaring someone else as his leader” he wondered and said he had handed over his resignation letter to Vaiko.
