CHENNAI: Hunting for a lawyer may seem like an uphill task for many, especially if you’re new to the city or have no idea how to find one. For lawyers too, it could be difficult to locate clients who are in need of specific legal services. Coming to the rescue of both the parties is the UrbanClap app that brings the two together on a smartphone.

Advocate M Rajkumar had read about the app and decided to download it about a month ago and now says he has benefited from doing so. “After hearing about how I could meet the prospective clients on the app, I decided to register with it and now in just a month, I have been able to meet six clients and I’m handling their cases now,” he says.

Much like the apps for taxi services, UrbanClap helps you find a lawyer based on your geographical location. You can either choose a regular lawyer or one specialising in Family Law (or any other specialisations you want), after which a list of names of the advocates living close to your area will be revealed to you. You can then select the option to find out the details of a specific lawyer, including consultation fee, professional experience, place of practice, specialisation, number of cases handled and the academic qualifications plus how far away he/she is located.

You can also choose to request a free quote by answering basic legal questions related to family, property, corporate, criminal or debt matters including consumer complaints or traffic violations. Depending on what you select, you’ll be asked a few more details and also a small 100-word description, after which you’ll be allowed to receive a reply from the lawyer.

It also allows you to get the best deals if you feel overwhelmed by the options on the list. The consultation fee ranges anywhere between `900-`3,000.  However, lawyers are not the only professionals who benefit from the app. The app gives you info on any local services available in your area including wedding planners, fitness trainers, chartered accountant for small businesses, IT filing, movers & packers, and even mehndi artists.
