CHENNAI: The demise of iconic Cuban revolutionary and former President of the Carribean nation Fidel Castro has kindled memories of political leaders in Tamil Nadu. Those who have reminisced the life of Castro included DMK president M Karunanidhi, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, PMK founder S Ramadoss, CPM State Secretary G Ramakrishnan, CPI State secretary R Mutharasan, DMDK founder Vijayakant, DMK treasurer MK Stalin, PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss and MMK president MH Jawahirullah.

Karunanidhi, in a statement laced with emotion, reproduced the poem he had penned and rendered on the life and achievements of Castro, at a conference held in Chennai on January 21, 2006, at a function relating to Cuba.

CPM State secretary G Ramakrishnan recalled how Castro managed the situation when United States imposed an economic sanctions against Cuba for decades. Castro has been a driving force for left movements in various countries, he said.

CPI State secretary R Mutharasan said Castro had put an end to the autocratic rule in his country and handled all troubles posed by United States including so many attempts on his life besides successfully leading his country to prosperity in all sectors.
