CHENNAI: The 34th Gill Memorial Sports and 18th P N Dhawan Cultural Festival was organised by the Punjab Association at the Rajarathinam Stadium recently with much fanfare. Conducted in memory of G S Gill and P N Dhawan, who were patrons of the association, the event saw participation from five educational institutions of the Punjab Association.
The chief guest at was R Nataraj, Mylapore MLA and former DGP, who unfurled the national flag and declared the event open. He urged students to take part in the events in the spirit of sportsmanship. The students were then led to take the athlete’s oath, following which dance performances from each of the schools were hosted.
The sports events for the day included track events, shot put, long jump, discuss throw and javelin throw. The schools taking part included PN Dhawan Adarsh Vidyalaya, Gill Adarsh, Anna Adarsh, MGR Adarsh and Padma Adarsh.
The closing ceremony was presided over by P Ramachandran, Olympian and three-time Asian Games silver medallist. Ramesh Lamba, general secretary, Anil Anand, sports secretary, Ajay Bhalla, treasurer and office bearers of Punjab Association were present.fice
