Police suspect wider network behind pistol smuggling at Triplicane

Nearly three weeks after the police seized a pistol from the gang at Triplicane, an advocate who is suspected to be a kingpin in the racket is still stated to be absconding.

CHENNAI: Nearly three weeks after the police seized a pistol from the gang at Triplicane, an advocate who is suspected to be a kingpin in the racket is still stated to be absconding.

However, police sources said their investigation revealed the advocate Deepan had alleged links with a counterfeit note group. Sources said Deepan had contacts with one Noorudeen, who is one of the co-accused in the 2014 NIA’s case against alleged Pakistan spy Mohammed Sakir Hussain.

The Organised Crime Intelligence Unit on August 8 seized a 9 mm pistol from a gang at Triplicane based on a tip-off. The pistol appeared to be a foreign-made and police sources said the perfection of the make is something rarely seen in such smuggled pistols.
