EPS joins issue with actor, says party did not pull the strings

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday denied the charge that the ruling party had a hand in the rejection of nomination of actor Vishal for the RK Nagar by-election.

CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday denied the charge that the ruling party had a hand in the rejection of nomination of actor Vishal for the RK Nagar by-election. He said the laws of Election Commission were common to everyone in the country.

He made this remark while speaking at the AIADMK party workers’ meeting at Tondiarpet. Referring to the statement of DMK working president M K Stalin on the rejection of nomination of Vishal, he said: “The ruling party did not interfere in the scrutiny of nomination papers. It is up to the Returning Officer to decide who had made what mistake in the nomination form and what action should be taken for that. It is totally wrong to say that the State government has a hand in it.”

He appealed to AIADMK cadre to work in unison to ensure the victory of E Madhusudhanan, the party candidate.

Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said as far as RK Nagar constituency is concerned, Madhusudhanan knows every voter in the constituency and his victory is certain given the overwhelming support AIADMK cadre gathered for the meeting.

Later, speaking to mediapersons, Palaniswami said he and other leaders would start their campaign on Thursday.
