CHENNAI: The non-bailable arrest warrants (NBWs) issued by a lower court in Chennai against DMDK leader Vijayakant and party former MLA D Murugesan of Anakaputhur, were set aside by the Madras High Court on Wednesday.

Justice M S Ramesh quashed the NBWs issued by the Judicial Magistrate at Alandur on December 5 last. Originally, following a complaint from a journalist alleging that he was assaulted by the duo at the airport in October, 2012, the Alandur JM issued summons to the accused to appear before the court.

When the matter was taken up on December 5, both the accused - Vijayakant and Murugesan -  were not present. While counsel for Vijayakant submitted that he had proceeded to Singapore due to some unavoidable situation, the magistrate, , issued the NBWs against the duo.
