CHENNAI: A man aged 33 was arrested on Saturday for allegedly murdering his six-month old daughter under the influence of alcohol, at his Old Washermenpet residence in March, 2017.  The accused, P Rajesh, worked as a booking clerk at  Chennai Central Railway Station. In March, he rushed his daughter, Arikashree, to Stanley Medical College claiming that she had fallen down and injured herself. Within a couple of days, the child passed away.

“At that point, we booked the case under Section 174 Crpc which is for an unnatural death,” explained the investigating officer. “Then the post-mortem examination results came out and it indicated that it was a suspicious death as the skull at the back of her head had broken.”

What followed was a series of interrogation of Rajesh and his wife by Korrukupet police.  “When we questioned them, they gave us believable reasons,” said the investigating officer. “They said that she had fallen and hurt herself. But it was when we interrogated Rajesh separately that he confessed to the crime.” Police said Rajesh came home inebriated and smashed the six-month old’s head against the wall.  “He said he did it because he does not like girl children,” said the investigating officer.
