CHENNAI:   The sensational murder of a scientific officer of Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic Research (IGCAR) V Ellappan in 2013 has been solved with the arrest of five persons, including a woman. Police also suspect the role of proclaimed offender 'don' Sridhar Dhanapal in this.

On Thursday, police arrested Thenmozhi, Sellappa, auto driver Gopi, Ezhumalai and Sekharan from Kancheepuram in connection with the murder of the IGCAR officer to grab his Rs 20 crore worth property.

Kancheepuram police, who arrested five, said they were conducting inquiries to ascertain the involvement of Sridhar as the murder was related to a murky land deal.

Incidentally, the arrests were made when Thenmozhi tried to make a property transaction. A widow known to Ellappan's father, she had befriended the scientific officer. The five accused have planned the murder and buried his body in Palar River bed.

After three months, Ellappan's mother also passed away which the police suspect to be the handiwork of the five accused. Thenmozhi, with the help of her father-in-law Sellappa created fake documents to show that Ellappan’s father, a retired sub-collector, had written three houses and two other properties in her name. Police suspect her to have sought the help of land mafia Sridhar Dhanapal,  currently hiding in Dubai. However, police are further investigating the case.
