CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government assured to consider using the funds provided for MLA constituency development scheme (CDS)  for water supply schemes, given the acute drought conditions prevailing in the state.

“The state is reeling under acute water shortage. When MLAs visit the constituency, people are complaining about it. All MLAs must be allowed to utilise the entire funds allocated to MLA CDS for water supply schemes,” Deputy Leader of Opposition Durai Murugan said in the Assembly on Friday.
Concurring with his demand, Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani said, “It is a just demand.  The government will definitely consider it.”

Winding up the debate on the Budget, Leader of Opposition MK Stalin said the Centre had allocated `2014.45 crore for drought against the demand for `62,138 crore for drought and cyclone relief.
Revenue Minister RB Udhayakumar said the quantum of funds allocated for TN was the highest among all states.
Much to the chagrin of Finance Minister D Jayakumar,  he said the CRA has received an official communication.
