Congress MP slams Modi govt for failing to fulfil promises

Congress MP and academician MV Rajeev Gowda slammed the Modi government for failing to fulfill the promises and charged the Centre with levying taxes only on the poor to ‘sustain’ the economy.

CHENNAI: Congress MP and academician MV Rajeev Gowda on Friday slammed the Modi government for failing to fulfill the promises and charged the Centre with levying taxes only on the poor to ‘sustain’ the economy.

Talking to reporters at Sathiyamoorthy Bhavan, the TNCC headquarters here, he pointed out that Modi promised to deposit `15 lakh in each citizen’s bank accounts but nothing had materialised even after three years.

The much trumpeted demonetisation drive, he said had helped only the rich to convert their black money into white. The currency ban exercise had led to closure of several industrial units even in Tiruppur and Coimbatore, he added.

In his view, the government was forced to allocate more funds for MGNREGA as migrant labourers, employed in construction sector in urban areas, had to return to their respective villages due to job loss triggered by demonetisation.

According to the Rajya Sabha Member from Karnataka, growth and fixed capital investment had dropped after demonetisation as investors lost their faith.
