Be silly and hide: Things I learnt from my cat

CHENNAI: There’s something about having a furry friend at home that makes life better. But let’s be honest: The perfect pet does not exist. All of our pets do their own hilarious, yet completely logical things which sometimes makes us sit back and think, “Did my pet just show me how to handle life better than I do?”

My cat Toffee is no exception. Having rescued her from the neighbourhood vet, watching her grow from a playful, funny kitten to a more pretending-to-be-a-serious-grump, funny cat has been a wonderful experience. The great thing is, I’ve learned a bunch of life lessons from her! So here are some meowspirations from Toffee:

1. If you really want something, take the initiative, stick a claw
into it and grab it for yourself!

2. Don’t stop whining till you get exactly what you want, like that ONE SPECIFIC brand of cat food that may not be available anywhere when you run out of it at 2 am.

3. Move on from failure immediately, especially if you just tried to jump to the top of a cupboard, miscalculated, and fell down on your face instead!

4. Everything else can wait but naptime NEEDS to happen. It doesn’t matter if your human happens to be working on the laptop when you are suddenly possessed by the desire to sleep on their hands.

5. Do your real work when everyone else is asleep. So what if you disturb or walk all over their faces. Keeping the house safe from mice is a real overnight job!

6. For real peace and quiet, hide somewhere where not a single soul can find you. Even if they panic for hours...you still got your “alone time”. And that’s all that matters.

7. Be silly sometimes!
