CHENNAI: Demonetisation ruined the Indian economy and it was done by the Central government only to favour big corporates in the country, alleged Sitaram Yechury, general secretary of CPM here on Sunday.
Speaking at the launch of a book ‘Parliament Speech of Sitaram Yechury. A compilation of speeches made by Yechury in Parliament’, he said in the three years of BJP rule, more than 12 per cent of the GDP has been added to the wealth of one per cent of Indians.

Demonetisation helped only money laundering and converted all black money to white. Worst corruption has taken place through demonetisation and the Narendra Modi’s government did not know how to revive the economy, Yechury charged.

He also said that Dalit and Muslims were being targeted and attacked in the name of Gau Rakshak. Our constitution is under threat. It is every individual’s duty to stand united and protest against this threat, he added. It is important that all opposition parties stand united and protect the welfare of the country and people.

Bharati Puthakalayam and CPM jointly organised the book launch. Members of Parliament A Navaneethakrishnan and Kanimozhi, EM Sudarsana Nachiyappan of Congress and others also participated.
