17 government staff booked for renting out official flats

The Central Bureau of Investigation has booked 17 Central government employees for renting out the official quarters allotted to them in the Central Public Works Department quarters in K K Nagar.

CHENNAI: The Central Bureau of Investigation has booked 17 Central government employees for renting or subletting out the official quarters allotted to them in the Central Public Works Department quarters in K K Nagar.

Besides the government staff who illegally let their quarters on rent, the CBI has booked 18 individuals who took the houses on rent and were living there.

According to the CBI, the individuals for whom the quarters were illegally rented out had obtained Aadhaar card, ration card, and gas connection in the Central government quarters located in heart of the city.

CBI sources said the accused are working in various Central government agencies such as Geological Survey of India, Regional Passport Office, Ministry of Defence and All India Radio and their act amounts to abuse of their official position and cheating the government.

Thirunavakarasu, who works for the Central Public Works Department, is named as an accused in the FIR. He was allegedly the main conduit between the government staff and the private persons. It is alleged that he knowingly allowed private individuals to stay in the Central government quarters.
