Feeling of collective nostalgia as generations meet

CHENNAI: The young and old gathered to reminisce a common memory: their schooling at Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama School. Hundreds of alumni from the schools flooded their T Nagar campus on Sunday to celebrate their collective nostalgia.

“My insistance on moral values was instilled into me by my school,” said Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, chairman of Nalli Silks, who was one among the many distinguished alumni. He recalled attending moral science classes from where he claimed he built his business ethics as a 12-year-old boy.
He said he imbibed the habit of reading from his teachers who first made him read “Sathya Sothanai - The Story of My Experiments with Truth” , the autobiography by Mahatma Gandhi.

“Not only were morals as much importance as education, but we were moulded to become complete personalities as we were trained in three languages and the education was always application oriented,” he said speaking to Express at the reunion function held at the school campus.

The alumni meet, aimed at building a platform that would let accomplished graduates of the school inspire young and ambitious counterparts. B S Raghavan IAS (retired), K V S Gopalakrishnan (a former DGP), A Ramji, a former general manager of Railways and N Vaghul, retired Chairman of ICICI Bank were among the many well known alumni who attended the meeting.Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama School was established in 1932 when T Nagar was a growing suburb.
