CHENNAI: A week after a duo snatched her mobile phone, a software engineer, along with the public, chased and nabbed the suspects after spotting them at the same place at Chromepet where she became a victim.

On September 20, Anbarasi, a 22-year-old from Bharathipuram at Chromepet, was heading home from office along with her friend on a two-wheeler.

“As they were crossing Radha Nagar, the men allegedly intercepted them and snatched Anbarasi’s mobile phone worth `18,000, and escaped from the scene,” said a police official.

On Tuesday evening, as she was going with her relative along the same stretch at Radha Nagar, Anbarasi spotted the duo on a motorcycle. They chased the suspects and raised an alarm to alert the public.

The suspects, identified as Sivasankaran (25) of Tambaram and Jaffar (24) of Old Pallavaram, tried to speed away. However, their luck ran out when they found the railway level-crossing gate closed. They tried to abandon the bike and escape on foot, but were chased and quickly nabbed by the public, said the police official.

The men were handed over to Chitlapakkam Police and were remanded in judicial custody by a magistrate court on Wednesday.

Police said the men were already involved in a series of mobile phone and chain snatching cases in the locality.
