Southern Railway launches three-phase suburban rail service 

The three phase EMUs has 1,168 seats and provision for 4,852 standing passengers which is 20 per cent more than the existing EMUs.

CHENNAI: Southern Railway today introduced three phase EMUs (electric multiple units) trains comprising 12-car rake with additional features for better passenger comfort.

The trains will be operated in the Chennai Beach Tambaram, Chennai Beach-Chengapattu sector from today, a press release said.

In the Chennai-Beach and Chengapattu sector, six services were introduced while in the Chennai Beach-Tambaram it is three services.

The three phase EMUs has 1,168 seats and provision for 4,852 standing passengers which is 20 per cent more than the existing EMUs.

Surveillance cameras were installed in the ladies compartment, it said.
