TN leaders pay rich tributes to K.Kamaraj, recall his contributions
CHENNAI: Top leaders in Tamil Nadu on Sunday paid rich tributes to the late leader, K Kamaraj, widely known for his visionary thinking on the development of education, industries and irrigation, on his birth anniversary.
Addressing an event marking the 116th birth anniversary of Kamaraj held at Virudhnagar, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami heaped praises on him. “He focused on education, agriculture, industries and irrigation,” he said.
Palaniswami added, “Kamarajar saw education as an effective tool to uplift the downtrodden sections, including the Scheduled Castes, and introduced noon meal at schools to encourage children to take up education.”
On behalf of the State government, ministers D Jayakumar (Fisheries) V Saroja (Social Welfare) and P Benjamin (Rural Industries) paid floral tributes to the Kamaraj statue on the Marina beach. DMK working president and Leader of Opposition MK Stalin stated that the Tamil society could never forget the services that the late Chief Minister rendered for the progress of education in the State and create awareness among the student community.
He also wanted everyone to take a pledge to take forward the mission of Kamaraj in providing education.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president S Thirunavukkarasar noted that Kamaraj was a role model for younger generations and the politicians. He paid floral tributes to the late leader at his memorial in T Nagar.
The Congress organised various events marking the birth anniversary. Tamil Nadu BJP president Dr Tamilisai Soundarrajan and DMK MP Kanimozhi also garlanded the Kamaraj statue in Chennai.
