CHENNAI: Humans are conditioned, confused, uncertain, and insecure. They try to find a solution in the past, go back to their own traditions or accept some kind of leadership. This is what is happening throughout the world. There are the fundamentalists who look to Marx, Koran or Bible.

But then what is the root cause of all this confusion, lack of integrity, and a sense of desperate degeneration? Once the cause of a problem is identified, it can also be ended. One of the causes is that most of us play with symptoms without enquiring about the cause. We say it is due to overpopulation, bad government. Throughout the world, it is the same - lack of leadership, lack of morality. These are all symptoms. When we begin to enquire into the cause, each one of us will give different opinions.

The more learned we are, the greater is the assertion of the cause or causes. But we are ordinary people, the laymen. We are caught in this great turmoil that exists in countries across the world. Every nation, every group, is preparing for war. All countries, especially the industrial countries, are supplying armaments to the rest of the world. But we will only play around it having lengthy discussions on which country will win and why industrial countries are are supplying arms to a war-torn nation. We have accepted the idea of war as a historical process and it has become a reality. But the root of it is, we live in an illusion that our country must be protected. We just don’t enquire deep into fundamental causes.

We are dependent on our leaders and are incapable to think on our own. Apart from that lack of self-reliance, a sense of responsibility for oneself is the root cause of all this confusion. We will simply follow our leaders- economic, religious, and political and allow their words to guide us in our life.

To be a light to oneself, one requires freedom, and a clear brain. But to have an active brain, to challenge, to question, to doubt, that means to have energy. But when you depend on others, you lose energy.
