CHENNAI : After a report in the The New Indian Express about the sewage leaking into the Buckingham Canal from the pipe along Mylapore MRTS Station, the pipe was fixed by Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board. But a day after it was fixed, the pipe broke, again, exposing the cavity.

The gaping hole in the sewer pipeline has been closed with cement and putty, but activists still await a permanent solution. “I have informed the ward 123 Assistant Engineer about it. They said it will take a day or two to cover it again. For now, they have covered the hole with a tarpaulin sheet,” said civic activist CR Balaji.

A similar step was taken last year to temporarily stop the leakage. But a month later, the cement gave away and the pipe continued to leak. A similar problem along Mandaveli MRTS Station on St Mary’s Road will soon be permanently stopped by letting sewage through alternate pipeline said Assistant Engineer, ward 126 of Metrowater Board. This will bring down the pressure on the main pipeline avoiding leaks.
