CHENNAI: Nearly 13 days after a rag picker died in a hit-and-run accident, city police have arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly pushing down the man during a wordy duel following which the victim was run over by a truck at Poonamallee. Police gave the name of the arrested as K Venkatesan of Korattur.

The deceased was identified as A Sakthivel, 25, of Padikuppam Salai at Gandhi Nagar. On June 3, the police control room received a call from one Muthupandi, stating that a man had been run over by an unknown vehicle and was battling for life.

During investigation, police scanned the CCTV footage from a nearby ATM to check the registration number of the vehicle and found that the truck was driven by one Murugan, 59, of Red Hills. While interrogating him, he had reportedly told police that he had seen Shaktivel arguing with another man who pushed him down on the road, said a police official.
