Chennai band 'C Majors' longest Gospel songs performance enters Limca book of records

CHENNAI: City-based 10-member band C Majors have found their way into the Limca Book of Records for the longest band performance of Gospel songs. Founder-cum-lead vocalist Rini Sam and the band manager Sam Khalandar were ecstatic as their efforts were recognised on national platform.

“We wanted to provide a platform for young musicians to expose their talents. In January 2017, along with like-minded musicians, we formed the band,” shares Rini.The band consists of Rini Sam (lead singer), Prabin Samuel (vocalist), Vinoth Kumar M (music director and keyboardist), Nithesh T(drummer), Praveen Kumar A (percussionist), Sabi Thankachan (lead guitarist), John Jeevan Raj (guitarist), Blesson Samuel Reji (keyboard), Smith Ebenezer (flute and saxophone), and Davidson Christopher, the sound engineer.

The certificate from the Book officials was presented to the band recently and M Prakash, chairman, State Minorities Commission, Latha Karunakaran, EE from TNEB, felicitated the band. SJ Chiru, principal secretary and commissioner, Chadwick Samuel, Joel Thomas Raj, Albert Solomon were also part of the award ceremony.

Recalling the record attempt, Rini says, “In June 2017, we decided to try and perform for 17 hours straight. It was the most challenging yet exciting hours in our life. We started performing at around 1.40 am and went on to perform till 8.45 pm. We performed a mix of about 230 Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Hindi Gospel songs. We had a wonderful crowd cheering for us and it was an unforgettable experience.”

The aim, Rini says, is to encourage young talent. “Our band members are from different socio-economic backgrounds. But we all have the same vision and love towards music. We are so proud to have created a national record,” she said.

Concurring, Sam shared that their next goal is to reach the Guinness Book of Records. “We have performed in different churches and have also a few albums to our credit. We are also planning to go around the country and perform in unexplored parts.”The band will also perform at orphanages and blind schools during Christmas.
