CHENNAI: A 24-year-old history-sheeter was murdered at a wedding in Santhome on Sunday evening after a fight broke out between drunk men. The police said Vijay (24) from Nochikuppam, an unemployed man, was living with his mother Varalakshmi in the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board quarters.

“On Sunday night, Vijay went to attend a marriage reception of his friend Babu in a hall opposite the Santhome church. Vijay was drunk and was dancing to the music while he sprayed foam that fell on Ulaganathan who was also drunk. The duo picked a fight and Vijay was removed from the hall. Angered by this, the man went home and returned with a sharp weapon,” said a police officer.

He tore the banner of Ulaganathan placed outside the hall. Angered over this, a gang of four men attacked Vijay with wooden logs kept for cooking. Vijay ran away from the hall and a few metres away at the Kutchery Street, he fell down and died.

His attackers fled the spot even as Mylapore police were alerted. The police registered a case and arrested Ulaganathan (26), Manikandan (25), Ashok (22) and Jayakumar (28). Vijay’s body was sent to  government Royapettah hospital. Vijay was found to have a few cases of assault and attempt to murder in the Mylapore and Marina police stations.
