City-based Jyothi Sudhakar has been stitching Halloween costumes based on the client’s requirements for the last six years. She runs her business from her house. A few costumes are imported from North India, the US and China. Some of her hot selling pieces are dragons, crocodiles, witch, mummies and aliens. Common picks like pumpkins and skeletons are also available.
“It’s not feasible to stitch a costume every year so I rent it out. Later the returned pieces are washed, dried and starched. People think Halloween costumes are supposed to be gory and black. Costumes can include fairy tales, cartoon characters and animals as well,” said Jyothi.
She said she usually takes about a month to stitch the costumes in case there is a bulk order for corporate parties and about a week for individual pieces. Clients can call a week in-advance and book the costumes or get it stitched according to preference.

Twinkles The Party Shop
Deoli Kohli, owner of Twinkle The Party Shop, does not believe in bulk orders of similar costumes. In her five-year-old shop, her golden rule is uniqueness. She wants each kid to look strikingly different from another. The shop has costumes for kids and accessories for adults. LED balloons, skeleton balloons and foil balloons are trending this year. Apart from the usual scary masks and witch wigs, superhero costumes like Captain America and Wonder Woman are in demand for cosplays. “Halloween culture has picked up in the recent years and people are celebrating it in a grand manner. Be it house parties or dressing up for clubs, everybody wants to look different. I’m glad that kids are trying out too. Even minor extra fittings like hair bands, extra teeth and nails can make a huge difference,” said Deoli.

Finger puppets and glow in the dark slime anyone? Peekaboo Patterns offers multi-coloured child-friendly finger puppets in the shape of animals, superheroes and other creatures. The puppets are made of intricate embroidery and is one of their best selling products. This year’s speciality is glow in dark slime. The 14-year-old shop also offers Halloween-themed interior decor to deck up your house for parties. The cushions sections have a lot of variety like glow in the dark embroidery, Aladdin’s magic lamp and cartoon characters imprinted on it. These are primarily designed for kids between age of eight to 14-year-old.

Be it skeleton stretch body suit, vampire fangs and sliced organs or any scary accessories, you will find it at The Party Shop. “We import most of our costumes to provide the best quality. Regular bazaar items like skulls and finger nails are available. The culture of Halloween is gaining popularity. People use Pinterest to come up with ideas to deck up their homes,” said Sophia Caroline, owner of the shop. People from southern districts also drop in to pick up bulk orders. The six-year-old shop has a parent company called Santa Stores known for its Christmas props. They have an online platform that caters and delivers to different parts of the country.
