Miscreants rob three women in separate incidents in Chennai

Three women were allegedly assaulted and robbed of around 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery and cash in two different incidents on Saturday night.

CHENNAI: Three women were allegedly assaulted and robbed of around 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery and cash in two different incidents on Saturday night. The Arumbakkam police has launched a hunt for a 45-year-old man who stabbed a 25-year-old woman with a knife and escaped with her jewellery in Arumbakkam on Saturday. The victim Annapoorani was staying with her husband Subhash Kumar.

The couple is from Odisha and they were staying at a rented house at NSK Nagar in Arumbakkam, said police. On Saturday, when Subhash had gone for work, Pachaiappan who lives in the same locality, barged into their house and allegedly attacked Annapoorani with a knife. He then fled the house with around three sovereigns of gold jewellery.

In another case, when M Vijayakumari was alone at her house in Veppampattu in Tiruvallur district, two unknown men barged into the house and held her at knifepoint. The robbers stole ten sovereigns of gold and `15,000 cash. Meanwhile, when Suja Nandhini, a neighbour, came to visit her, the robbers attacked Suja and stole her five sovereign gold chain.
