A crowded bazaar, a lady adjusting her attire (probably, gearing up for the day or after work) and a Burmese child--- seem like a leaf out of the book that narrate familar stories. However, ‘From Myanmar With Love’ is fascinating on many accounts—bright colours, slice of life imagery – that present the simple way of life in Myanmar.

A travelling art exhibition from Myanmar in India, which commenced from New Delhi and took place at the All India Fine Arts & Crafts Society (AIFACS) New Delhi between  February 18 and 24 this year, the show has so far travelled to Italy and will be presented in cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai and Ahmedabad

Abhishek Basu, the curator of the art show, says, “This is the first time a group show of Contemporary Art from Myanmar is being exhibited in India and Calcutta Arts Club has the support of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) as well as the Indian Council for World Affairs (ICWA) and this event was a curtain raiser to the ASEAN Delhi Dialogue 2013 which was organised in association with Federation of Indian Commerce and Industry (FICCI).”

Myanmar artists Aung Myint, Maung Aw, K Kway and Than Kyaw Htay paint an extraordinary picture of the Burmese day-to-day interactions with an exuberance that makes them seem extraordinary.

Basu adds about the painting in the curators note, saying, “My quest for discovering the contemporary art culture in Burma began in 2009 when I visited Yangon and was introduced to Zaw Win Pe, an unparalleled artist who will soon become a living legend. Zaw Win Pe’s abstract landscapes are captivating from the first moment. He uses a palette knife to overlay colours and textures, emphasising the emotive quality of painting. I soon discovered that the abundance of Burma’s culture far exceeded my expectations. This exhibition is an attempt to communicate the timeless beauty of the place and its people.”

From Myanmar With Love will be on display till September 28 at Vinnyasa Premier Art Galery, 21/11, 1st Main Rd, CIT Colony, Mylapore. Contact: 044 2498 2515
