It was an evening of glitter and glamour with the presence of Kollywood actors and technicians at the 7th edition of the Edison Awards on Sunday.

The awards function organised by mytamilmovie.com, an online cinema portal, saw colourful dance performances and awards presented in about 30 different categories. The winners were chosen based on  online voting by fans in the cinema portal. Tapsee Panu, who received the award for enthusiastic performer, said she was lucky to be getting her first award after working for three years in the Tamil film industry. “I have a long wish list of actors I want to work with, right from superstar to Karthi,” she said.

Actors including Dhansika, Atharva, Vedika  Subbu Panchu, Rahman and Sivakarthikeyan and director Atlee for ‘Raja Rani’, music director Siddharth Vippin for ‘Idharku Thaane Aasai Pattai Balakumara’, playback singer Saindhavi for ‘Irandam Ulagam’ were given awards. “I was a person who would go for the first show and sit in the front row and keep clapping when I see the stars on the screen. But I never imagined I would receive so much applause,” said actor Sivakarthikeyan, who received the ‘Rising Star’ award.

Tun Mohammad Khalil Bin Yakob, Governor of Malacca, who is a great fan of M G Ramachandran and has interest and passion for Tamil cinema, gave away many overseas Tamil jury awards for best direction, dance group and choreographer.

YB Datuk MS Mahadevan Sanacy, Malacca State Minister for Company Affairs, Human Resources and Non-Governmental Organisations, who was also present at the function, said the delegation from Malaysia was overwhelmed by  the reception given by people in the city. While the audience kept cheering throughout the function for their favourite actors, it was  ‘Powerstar’ Sreenivasan who was received amid a huge applause and screams when he was presented the award for Best Comedian for the film ‘Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya’.
