City Police on Tuesday night arrested a 31-year-old businessman after he repeatedly taunted an advocate over a post the latter had shared on his Facebook page.

Nungambakkam Police said S Mohanraj (31), a businessman running a lathe at Kosapettai junction in Washermanpet, who was also on Facebook, was arrested for taunting Madras High Court advocate Srinivasan, a resident of Narayanan street in Nungambakkam. The advocate is the son of a retired judge.

Recently, Srinivasan had uploaded a picture of his dog on his Facebook page along with details of his pet’s victory at a dog show. Mohanraj repeatedly wrote objectionable comments on the post, despite Srinivasan giving him prompt and courteous replies.

Subsequently, Mohanraj issued threats to the life of the advocate, following which the lawyer filed a complaint with the Nungambakkam police on November 28 for which a CSR was issued.

Cops pursued the complaint and confirmed that the objectionable comments were indeed uploaded by Mohanraj. The Internet Protocol (IP) address of his computer was also verified with the help of his internet service provider. They registered a case under Sections 66 (A), (B), (C) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and 506 (I) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. Mohanraj was arrested on Tuesday and was later remanded in judicial custody.
