A man was found hanging with his hands and mouth tied with adhesive tape, in his own book-binding unit in Mir Bakshi Ali Street at Royapettah here on Saturday. The relatives of Bhaskar (30) claimed it was murder as his hands and mouth were found tied and the head was covered in a plastic bag.

“Baskar’s sister Amala found him hanging in the room around 7 am. It does not appear to be suicide as his hands were tied. His mouth was also plastered and his head was covered with a plastic bag. We suspect someone murdered him and tried to make it look like suicide,” said Ramu, a relative of Baskar.

Baskar along with an employee had worked overnight in the unit due to pending work. Around 5 am, Baskar asked the staffer to leave and came to his house that is located only a stone’s throw away from the binding unit. However, he later went back to the unit. “Within this interval of two hours, somebody killed Baskar. Whether it was a premeditated act or a crime of passion is not clear. We want the police to track the culprits,” said Saravanan, another relative.

Meanwhile, the Anna Salai police have registered a case of suspicious death and are waiting for autopsy report for further investigation.
