In a bid to bridge the digital divide and strengthen the education system on a par with international standards, Microsoft on Tuesday launched Office 365 University, a software for students pursuing higher education.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, general manager of Microsoft Office division, Microsoft India,  Ramkumar Pichai said: “Office 365 University will be a trusted and integral part of students’ everyday always-on, always-connected life, taking full advantage of cloud and touch capabilities.”

Priced at Rs 4,199 for a four year subscription, Pichai said that the special pricing for students would help provide them opportunities and empower them to develop the necessary skills to be successful in the fast-paced campus environment, making their “future ready as they join the workforce of tomorrow.”

Office 365 University is available for full-time and part-time students studying in accredited colleges and universities. Students can subscribe to the software, which includes the latest and most complete set of office applications and comes with office on demand and an additional 20 GB premium SkyDrive Storage.

To buy it, students have to go online at www.office.com/verify to verify their eligibility in order to activate Office. During the verification process, students will need to fill in their university credentials or their student identity card details.

Pichai said that apart from full-time and part-time enrolled university college students, faculty and staff in accredited institutions are also eligible to purchase an Office 365 University subscription.
