School teaches significance of religion via essay writing competition

A competition that focuses on topics that are closely related to people’s lives and imparting the significance of Hindu culture and religion, Sri Vidhyatheertha Foundation conducted its 18th inter-school essay competition prize distribution on Saturday.

More than 2,000 students took part in the competition that was conducted in August, out of which 100 students were awarded. This year the topics for the competition were efficacy of chanting the lord’s name and the need to eradicate greed for juniors (class 6 to 8) and senior (class 9 to 12) level respectively. 

The chief guest, S Gurumurthy, Economist, during his speech spoke on how countries like the US which had followed the path of greed after the great depression are now sinking. He spoke about the significance of India and how spiritual gurus have been the pillars that have kept our tradition and cultural lifestyle intact.

“India still has kept its originality intact due to religiosity and spirituality. We have developed our nation without greed. But countries like the US have been practicing greed that is also affecting other nations now,” said Gurumurthy.

The rolling cup was given to Modern Senior Secondary School and the shield was presented to Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidhyashram by the chief guest.
