IIT-M announces awards for distinguished alumni

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, on Saturday announced the names of eight former students for this year’s Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA) 2013. Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras made the announcement during his Republic Day address.

The awards will be presented on Institute Day in April, 2013.

The Selection Committee for the DAA 2013 had chosen S Gopalakrishnan, M Tech in Applied Mechanics, 1987 batch and now professor, department of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Hari Balakrishnan, B Tech in Computer Science, 1993 batch, and now professor, department of Computer Science, Massachussetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge.

Shankar Ramamurti, a student of B Tech Electrical Engineering, 1969 batch and now a professor in department of Physics, Yale University, New Haven, CT, USA.

Ramanathan V Guha, B Tech in Mechanical Engineering, 1986 batch, now working in Google Inc, Los Altos Hills, CA, USA.

Kumar N Sivarajan, graduated in B Tech Electrical Engineering in 1987, now chief technology officer, Tejas Networks, Bangalore. Venky Harinarayanan, B Tech in Computer Science, 1988 batch, now senior VP, Walmart Global eCommerce, and Head of WalmartLabs, Saratoga, CA, USA.

Anand Rajaraman, B Tech in Computer Science in 1993, now founding partner, Cambrian Ventures, PaloAlto, CA, USA and Sailesh Krishna Rao, B Tech in Electrical Engineering, 1981 batch, now founder and executive director, Climate Healers, Danville, CA, USA.
