Delhi cops pay 'shagun' to colleague via e-wallets, bank apps

NEW DELHI:  Amid Delhi Police starting an awareness campaign to promote digital banking and cashless transactions among its personnel, some of their officials have started putting the learning to practical usage.

Sub-inspector Sandeep Kumar, who is posted at the Ambedkar Nagar police station, got married yesterday and his colleagues used e-wallets and bank apps to transfer the 'shagun' money in his account, said Romil Baaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast Delhi).

As many as 15 personnel used apps like PayTM, SBI Buddy, Axis Bank app to send him the money, he added.

At an event to launch the campaign, Delhi Police commissioner Alok Kumar Verma today asked his officers to use mobile wallets and netbanking in the wake of the Centre's demonetisation move.
