BHUBANESWAR: Passengers of the New Delhi-bound Indigo flight from Bhubaneswar were in for some anxious moments at the Indira Gandhi International Airport which was hit by a thunderstorm on Thursday morning. The flight had to be diverted to Jaipur.

With 109 passengers on board, the flight 6E-489 made attempts to land at IGI Airport, however it could not. It was later directed to Jaipur where it made a landing. The two- hour flight took close to 3 hour 54 minutes to reach its destination.

Sources said passengers experienced turbulence mid air as the flight was caught in bad weather conditions. The pilot made an attempt to land at IGI Airport but was diverted to Jaipur after being airborne for more than 30 minutes over Delhi. Later it made its trip back to Delhi at 10.30 am.

Official sources in Indigo attributed unfavourable weather conditions at Delhi to the flight diversion. There was no technical issues involved the diversion of the flight, it added.

“Due to thunderstorms at Delhi, the flight could not make a landing and was directed to Jaipur. In fact, half a dozen other flights were also diverted due to the same reason,” sources in Biju Patnaik Airport said.
