NEW DELHI: A 74-year-old woman was strangulated to death allegedly by her son, using a plastic pipe, in south-west Delhi's Sagarpur area, police said today.

The accused then made a PCR call and said, "I have killed my mother," according to a senior police officer.

It is suspected that the accused, Laxman (48), killed his mother after she refused to go to an old-age home, he said.

The woman, Laxmi Naidu, was first hit on the head by a brick and then strangulated using a plastic pipe on April 25.

Laxman told the police that he was suffering from depression since he was unemployed. However, it is being investigated whether he was undergoing treatment for it.

He said that he couldn't afford to bear the expenses of his mother and strangulated her. He has been arrested.

Police said that when they reached the spot, he was found sobbing and expressed remorse about killing his mother.
