15 slums gutted in Delhi's Vikas Marg area

NEW DELHI: As many as 15 slums were today gutted in fire in Vikas Marg area here, officials said today.

No casualty or injury to anyone was reported, said officials from fire department.

The jhuggis were gutted in fire when a spark arose from a wire passing through the area, they said.

Most of the people who lived in this area worked as daily wage labourers, who claim to have stored all their income inside their houses, which have now been burnt down, police said.

Around 15 families were rendered homeless but were provided temporary shelters, they said.

A motorcycle, which belonged to one of the residents of the area, was also gutted in the fire, fire department officials said.

Police said they have registered a case in the matter and have launched a probe into it.

In a separate incident, fire broke out in a bag store in a market in Shahbad Dairy today at 2 AM. The fire was brought under control in an hour.

Police said one person was inside the shop when the fire broke out but he was evacuated in time.

In a third incident, fire broke out at a store this afternoon in Asia's largest garment wholesale market Gandhi Nagar. A portion of the shop was gutted by the time the flames were doused.

No one was inside the store when the incident took place and the fire officials were alerted by one of the passersby.

No casualty or injury to anyone was reported in the incidents, fire department officials added.
