NEW DELHI: A trainee IAS found dead in a swimming pool of Indian Foreign institute, Vasant Vihar on Tuesday early morning.

According to the police, deceased identified as Ashish Dahiya, a trainee IAS of 2016 batch was posted in Jammu and Kashmir, died due to drowning.

But, on the other side, Ashish’s family has told to the police that deceased was a good swimmer and it is not possible that he died due to drowning. Sleuths have ruled out foul play as doctors who have conducted postmortem have concluded that Ashish died due to drowning, police said.

“Ashish was a swimmer and theory of his drowning is very weak. He was trying to save another officer but he drowned, how it can be possible…?” questioned Surender Dahiya, relative of Ashish told the New Indian Express.

According to the sources, a batch of civil servants were partying at Foreign Services Institute as they had completed their training on 12th May. Almost 25 young civil servants of different batches were inside the institute. "

A PCR call was received around 12:45 am mentioning that 'person who had drowned in the swimming pool of Foreign Services Institute, was being taken to hospital," Delhi police said in a statement. Ashish was declared brought dead by the doctors after which cops informed the family.

“Civil servants partying in the institute decided to go at pool site located at the institute. Spot evidence suggest that the revelers had been consuming alcohol. Statements of eye witnesses reveal that while swimming, a lady officer probably had an accidental slip into the pool and many young officers, including the deceased, attempted rescuing her," Additional DCP( South), Chinmoy Biswal said.

According to the sources, cops have recovered cans of beer and other alcohol and also claiming that IRS officer who was rescused raised the alarm.

“Female officer who incidentally slipped into the pool raised the alarm after she gained conscious. She was first to enquire about Ashish after which everyone started looking for the deceased,” sources said. Officials investigating the incident has also said that some electrical and civil work was scheduled on pool site.

Dahiya had to join J&K IMPA Srinagar from Wednesday for institutional training. He was from Sonipat, Haryana and had earlier worked with Bharat Petroleum, Himachal Pardesh Police and Indian Revenue Service before cracking IAS. Dahiya was also a recepinent of directors gold medal in LABSANA and  had a B.Tech degree.
