NEW DELHI: Houses, mainly bungalows, in Delhi’s posh areas are becoming easy targets for ‘gang of maids.’ Delhi police has busted one such gang and arrested seven women for stealing expensive items from the house. The cops have recovered jewellery worth Rs one crore. According to the police, this gang chooses its targets after conducting recces of the area and has targeted houses in New Friends Colony, Greater Kailash, Hauz Khas etc.

Cops claim that the gang has a unique modus operandi. “The female accused accessed the houses of the victims in the guise of servant maids/domestic help, who offered their services to the victims showing their expertise and professionalism. The accused mostly worked in pairs. While one of them distracted members of the victim’s family with her gimmicks the other one, who is usually expert in breaking/opening of the locks of almirahs/drawers, burgled the house thereby looting jewellery and cash from the target house,”  Dr. G. Ram Gopal Naik, DCP Crime Branch said.

After committing the offence, they swiftly fled the scene with stolen property neatly tucked under their shawls and sarees. With the help of CCTV recordings available at the places of incidents and surrounding areas, it was found that there were common faces in most of the incidents. “The gang stayed in Delhi-NCR for short periods and left for Bihar after amassing huge quantity of gold and diamond jewellery,” Naik said. All the arrested seven accused are from Bihar.
