Delhi flight attendant death case: Husband's parents denied anticipatory bail

A court had on July 17 sent Mayank, arrested on July 16, to 14 days' judicial remand after the Delhi Police moved an application, saying the accused was not required for custodial interrogation.

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court today refused to grant protection from arrest to the parents of the husband of a female flight attendant, who allegedly committed suicide in south Delhi's Panchsheel Park last week.

Sushma Singhvi and R S Singhvi, the parents of Mayank Singhvi, who is in judicial custody in the death case of his wife Anissia Batra (39), were denied anticipatory bail by the court after it was told that the allegations against them were serious, Ishkaran Singh Bhandari, the lawyer of the woman's parents, said.

Additional Sessions Judge Neelam Singh dismissed the application of the Singhvis after Bhandari told her that Anissia's parents had filed a complaint against her in-laws, accusing them of threatening her.

The complainants also claimed before the court that it wasn't a suicide but murder.

Mayank's parents moved the anticipatory bail application, claiming that they had no role in the matter and any dispute between their son and daughter-in-law was their internal matter.

A court had on July 17 sent Mayank, arrested on July 16, to 14 days' judicial remand after the Delhi Police moved an application, saying the accused was not required for custodial interrogation and he be sent to JC.

Anissia worked with a German airline. She allegedly jumped from the terrace of her house on Friday. Mayank rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead. Her family has alleged that her husband used to physically abuse her.

The couple had been married for over two years and lived in Panchsheel Park.

Before jumping off the terrace, she had sent a message to her husband that she would kill herself, police had said.

When he reached there, a labourer from the adjacent house told him that she had jumped.

She was taken to Max Hospital and police were informed.

She succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

Her husband, a software engineer in Gurgaon, had told the police that they had regular fights as there were "compatibility issues".

They had an argument on the day of incident as well, following which she jumped from the terrace, police had said.

In her complaint, Anissia's mother had alleged that Mayank used to regularly abuse her daughter.

The victim's family also alleged that Mayank would often demand money from Anissia.

They had also given a complaint to police on June 27 saying that if anything happens to their daughter, Mayank would be responsible, police had said.
