In an effort to involve the entire nation in the construction of ‘Statue of Unity’ at Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust (SVPRET), headed by Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi is organising a ‘Run for Unity’ on Dec 15.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Gujarat law minister Pradeep Singh Jadeja said the statue is a tribute to the great son of the nation Sardar Patel. The main aim of the project is to involve the people of the country in the project.

He said the Trust would visit all the seven lakh villages in the country and collect iron materials from the farmers, which would be used in the construction of the statue.

The ‘Run for Unity’ will be held at 562 places, the number being that of the princely states Patel integrated into the Indian union in 1947, he said.

The proposed 182-metre tall ‘Statue of Unity’ will be erected on a small rocky island called Sadhubet in the middle of the Narmada riverbed facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam at Kevadia.

Meanwhile, a delegation led by Gujarat law minister Jadeja met governor ESL Narasimhan and chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy here on Friday.
