Crafts mela

The NGO Nirmala Hastakalakar Vikas Samithi is back again with an all India Handlooms and Handicrafts mela in the city at the S R Nagar Community Hall, Ameerpet. The mela which was to close earlier, has been extended till December 30.

About 70 craftsmen are present at the mela showcasing a range of textiles in a variety of weaves from across the  country. Mangalgiri, Venkatgiri, Gadwal, Pochampally, Cherala kalamkari prints, crochet lace work from Andhra Pradesh besides Uppada and Madhavaram work are on display. From Uttar Pradesh Benaras, Moradabad brass and chicken works, from Madhya Pradesh Chanderi and Maheshwari sarees, and bell metal artifacts, from Jammu & Kashmir pashmeena shawls and Kashmiri silk, from West Bengal kantha and jute works, from Rajasthan Jaipur clothes and bedsheets are some of the more popular merchandise available. Other stalls include works from Haryana, Bihar (Baghalpur sarees and dress materials), Delhi and Gujarat.

The exhibition is open to public from 11 am to 9 pm everyday at the venue, including public holidays.
