Q: In between your stint as Edward Cullen, you’ve also had your time as Salvador Dali, Tyler Hawkins and Jacob Jankowski.
Flitting between films and coming back to Edward, how has it been? A: Edward Cullen has sunk into me and so there was no coming back from anywhere.
People love Twilight and they may always have looked for Edward Cullen in all the characters that I play.
Q: If you were to break the pattern, name one character that you’d love to essay and why.
Even otherwise, who or what is your dream role? A: My dream role would be to play the James Bond series, may be after 10 years down the line.
All the actors associated with the series are all so fit and when I reach that age I don’t want to have a pot belly and sit aside unhealthy.
Q: With Twilight: Breaking Dawn-part 2, this year your tally of films will be three.
Looking back, what did you enjoy the most and why? A: I would like to go back and re-shoot the first kiss from the Twilight series.
Q: In most of your films, you’ve ended up romancing older women, from Reese Witherspoon, Juliette Binoche to Uma Thurman and Kristin Scott Thomas.
What’s that been like? A: That is just a coincidence.
They have been great co-actors to work with and I have learnt immensely from each one of them.
Q: Coming back to Twilight, did you read the book first or the screenplay? A: I read the book after I got through the auditions.
Q: What was your first impression of Edward Cullen and now that it’s almost over, what is your impression now? A: In the beginning I had no idea that it would be that huge.
I mean it was crazy! I just thought of doing the movie in the beginning because Kristen was a known actress then and if she has signed it, the movie definitely has something in it.
Now I feel proud to be a part of the franchise.
Q: At the near end of Twilight, how do you feel? Is it going to be easier or tougher to give up Edward? A: I am pretty relaxed about the fact the Twilight series is over now.
It was a huge chunk of my life and I have really sweet memories attached to it.
People know me more as Edward than my own name.
Now that the franchise has come to an end, the hangover will remain for a while and I really have no clue of the journey ahead for me, if it’s going to be tough or easy.
Q: It’s going to be interesting for your character as Bella is no more mortal and there’s Renesmee and the Volturi showdown.
That’s a change in dynamics.
How different was it for you from the previous films? A: This one has more action and this time it is not about vampires vs werewolves.
It’s good against the bad.
And the slight twist in the movie makes it worthwhile.
Q: Each of the films has been helmed by different directors.
Was the change taxing or did it bring a challenge to you as an actor who has to play the same role through four films? Also whose style did you like best and who was it easiest to work with and why? A: It was a great pleasure working with each one of them and each had their own unique style of putting things.
They were very comfortable to work with and it was never a challenge.
Picking one out of all would be difficult.
Q: For four years you’ve been Edward Cullen, albeit with respite.
Is there anything you’ve borrowed from him or incorporated into the character from your life, besides Bella (Stewart) that is? A: I have matured being Edward, I started doing the movie when I was very young and now I realise I am not young anymore.
I have grown up and learnt so much from the character and from the people I worked with.
Q: Edward is shown sharing a very close relationship with his father in the film.
Off screen, what kind of a rapport do you share with the rest of your co-stars? A: The Cullen family is a family now.
We are all great friends of the screen as well.
Q: You are also a musician.
You once said it was back-up for if and when acting failed.
A: Yeah still remains my back up plan.
Q: Ever been to India? A: I have never had an opportunity to visit India.
But I have heard a lot about the country and its culture and movies.
