HC seeks report on ‘108’

A division bench of the HC comprising acting chief justice PC Ghose and justice Vilas V Afzalpurkar on Monday sought a report within a week from the state government on its review of the working of GVK-EMRI in running and maintaining the ‘108’ ambulance service.

The service, initiated by the Satyam group, was handed over to the GVK group later by the government.

The petitioner, PR Subramaniam, managing trustee of Cherish Foundation, faulted the method adopted by the government in choosing GVK and said that the procedure to nominate the latter lacked in transparency, and sought cancellation of the MoU signed between the government and GVK.

The bench, while making it clear that it was not inclined to go into the facts of the bidding as the state has the power to allot maintenance of the service on nomination basis, asked the government to give a report.
