Kalam opens OSMECON

Pointing out that 90 per cent of medical equipment and material is imported, APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India, urged medical students of Osmania Medical College, Koti to work with engineers and research and development teams to build indigenous medical equipment.

He was speaking while inaugurating the Osmania Medical Conference (OSMECON), an all India undergraduate medical conference organised by the medical college on Tuesday. He mentioned that though there are many doctors, only a few are remembered because of their contribution to the underprivileged. He advised students not to induce diagnostic pain - pain caused by exorbitant bills and unnecessary tests.
